The Battle Continues

We have an ant problem. No matter how clean my kitchen is, the ants run amok. This is a huge annoyance to me since my kitchen is small as it is, and I love to cook. We’ve used the granules around the perimeter of our house to try to get rid of them, and they didn’t work. They’ve even invaded Greg’s car. My main course of action against the ants has been sucking them up with my vacuum. I actually find enjoyment watching them fly off the windowsill or counter into the swirling vortex of death. Well, on Sunday before we left for church, Greg insisted on putting a drop of honey on the counter to try to attract as many as possible so we could kill a bunch in one swipe. I reluctantly agreed on this move because I was curious exactly how many would come, but didn’t want to try to attract more ants. I added some Borax to the honey just in case some went back home to their colony…maybe we’d kill a few extras. After being gone for a couple hours we returned to find this…
The kids of course thought this was the most amazing thing they’d ever seen. Kylie kept screeching about how Dad was a genius. I. was. mortified. The fact that there were so many ‘bugs’ in my kitchen made me want to bust out the bleach. Evidently they knew death was coming and tried to send us a message of their love by eating the circle of borax laden honey into a heart.
It didn’t work. I sucked up the trail with the vacuum, and Greg sprayed the ‘heart’ with kitchen cleaner and wiped them away. I am currently researching different methods of getting rid of these stinking ants. Next on the list is hitting the health food store for some essential oils. My goal is to not have to call a professional for my psychiatric well being to rid my house of ants.

Thrifty Thursday

My weekly Walgreen’s shopping trip was a bit light this time. They were out of a lot of stuff…this seems to be becoming a habit with them. I may start going on Sunday before church rather than waiting until Wednesday. They’ve been in the process of restocking everytime I go in, and have been jabbering rather than working. I will say, everyone is very friendly and helpful. The cashiers are always great at our local Walgreen’s. Anyways, on to the good stuff.
Sally Hansen’s Nail Polish – on sale for 1.37 + 1.67 = 3.04 – $3 coupon = .04 (printed another $3 coupon)
Termacare Heat Wrap – on sale for 2.49 – $1 coupon = 1.49 (printed 2.50 RR)
Aquafresh Toothpaste – on sale for 3.49 – $1 coupon = 2.49 (printed 1.50 RR)
Comet 1.19 x 2 = 2.38 – 1.38 WG ad coupon = 2/$1
Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup – 1.59 x 2 = 3.18 – $1 coupon – 1.40 WG ad coupon = 2/.78
Blue Diamond Almonds – 4.29 x 2 = 8.58 – 4.29 (B1G1) = 2/4.29 (I had a 1.50 coupon, but couldn’t use it because it was for Emerald Nuts…oops!)
Glade Sense & Spray – 9.99 – $5 (rain check for 50% off from a few weeks ago) – $4 coupon = .99
Milk – 2.69
In addition to the above coupons, I used $13 in RR from last week. My total went from 26.55 after coupons before taxes to $2.32 after all coupons, RR, & tax. AND it printed $4 in RR & the $3 Sally Hansen coupon. I may make another trip this week to get the stuff that was out of stock…not sure yet. If so, I will update below.

*REVIEW* Harry Connick, Jr. ~ Your Song

About a week ago, I was given the opportunity by One2One Network to participate in a review of Harry Connick, Jr’s new CD Your Songs. I actually got to enjoy it a day before it was available for purchase…hehe lucky me! Your Songs wasn’t released to the public until today!

Harry Connick, Jr. began performing at a very young age. He has since then grown into an amazing artist not just vocally, but also in theater and in movies. He has starred in 18 movies, 2 Broadway productions, and has released 26 albums.

Even though Harry Connick, Jr.’s music style isn’t what I normally listen to, I absolutely love his voice and have discovered that I really do enjoy his music. In the past it’s always reminded me of Christmas…this CD is different. Listening to this CD makes me want to put on a fancy dress, grab a nice glass of wine, and make out with my husband. I don’t know what it is, but prepare yourself. I mean, just take a glance at some of the songs on Your Songs. The track list consists of signature songs from classic artists and performers such as, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and Billy Joel along with others.

Below is a list of songs featured on Your Songs and who originally performed each song.
All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)

I really can’t choose which song was my favorite…there are several that I really like, but honestly the whole CD is very good. His voice is soothing and sexy, and the arrangements of each song are flawless…this would be a perfect compliment to a romantic candlelit dinner.
You can visit Harry Connick, Jr.’s website to sign up for his newsletter, view tour dates, join his fans on his Facebook page, view his biography and discography, purchase merchandise, and more.

To-Do Tuesday

I am totally keeping it real this week. I have about a gazillion things that I want to do floating around in my brain, but I am going to list the top 10 and do my best to bust it out this week. So, in no particular order…
1. Work on new blog!
2. Declutter!
3. Stay on routine.
4. Take Grayson to the library.
5. Wrap Grayson’s Christmas presents if he takes a nap this week.
6. Rid the world my house of ants.
7. Catch up on reviews.
8. Clear out my inbox’s & set up folders for heavens sake!
9. Apply what I learned at the marriage retreat.
10. Work on actually completing some crochet projects.

Monday Madness

Today is Monday. Usually for me, Monday means I can fall back into routine, and get a little break from the weekend. Since this weekend we went on a marriage retreat in Branson, I had a lot of catching up to do when I got home. This morning, I woke up determined to put the smack down on this particular Monday. I made Grayson & myself some breakfast, and scored my first point on Monday with an Iced French Vanilla Mocha. I also cleaned my kitchen while fixing breakfast, so I counted it as the same point…I didn’t want to get Monday all riled up so early.

I then, started on the mound of laundry that mysteriously accumulated while we were away, threw sheets on 5 beds, and vacuumed the house…making the score Me = 2 Monday = 0.
I then decided to check the mail. I was totally excited to receive a CD to review from One2One Network, and a free sample of a granola bar.
On my way back up to the house, Monday threw it’s first real punch. A grasshopper jumped on my leg, and before I could scream like a sissy and run crazily around the yard throwing mail in all directions, it jumped off…so, I was saved the embarrassment of a slight overreaction and walked quickly back to the house with mail still in hand. (I also gave myself a point for not outwardly freaking out, so the score was Me = 3 Monday = 1.)
Since my kitchen was what I would consider clean, I gave myself another point for sweeping/mopping and vacuuming up more ants. Me = 4 Monday = 1
Monday then became angry that I was totally kicking butt and taking names. It resorted to a low blow. Ants. More ants. Totally invading the game room. I went in there to water my pineapple tree (which I am insanely proud of), and for some reason looked down at the floor near the sliding glass door.

What. The. Crap. It’s a total ambush. Greg sprinkled the ant granule things yesterday, so seeing this mound of what seems to be a gazillion ants and tiny white eggs or food or whatever was a total kick to the crotch. Not sure how to respond to this, but I’ll give the granules a few more days before I make another move against the army in the game room. That was totally a 2 point blow, so the score is now Me = 4 Monday = 3.

To take a firm stand against Monday, I took some Tilapia out to thaw for dinner, unpacked and put away everything from our weekend getaway, and cleaned both bathrooms. ‘Take that!’ I shouted defiantly…well, not really shouted, more like thought. I mean, I’m not a totally loony.
I also watched ‘Zathura‘ with Grayson…he was totally engrossed and LOVED it, and almost finished a crochet project. On a related side note, I can’t turn my head very far to the right…some sort of muscle pain in my neck which I’m not sure when or how it happened. Monday scored a final blow at the buzzer. Since I’m cooking dinner and doing nothing else work-wise tonight, I’m calling it.
Final score…Me = 9 Monday = 4.
I. Win.

One of those days…

Today has been one of those days that weird and random things just happen. I have these days often, but this one had photo ops so I figured I’d share. First of all, it has been raining for what seems like forever. I think it actually started last night, but it’s been gloomy/sprinkle-y since Saturday so to me that equals forever. Any-who, today was supposed to be my big shopping day. The original plan was to go to town, do my grocery & Walgreen’s shopping, come home & unload, then head to coffee, then pick up kids from school. Since it was pouring, I decided to cut back on the grocery shopping a little and only go to one store, and wait until tomorrow to go to Walgreen’s. It started to let up, and was a light steady rain so I grabbed an umbrella and headed out the door. I unstrapped the umbrella, gave it a little shake, and pressed the button. As it began to open, the end flew off the handle, opened up and landed upside down in the rain. I stood there, shocked for a second, then snapped a picture.

After running through the rain to the truck to retrieve a different umbrella, Grayson and I headed to the store. When we got there, I realized I had forgotten the debit card, so I was very limited on what I could buy. We exited the truck holding the good umbrella, and somehow within 2 steps I sloshed water into my left shoe in turn drenching my pant leg.
So, now I am irritated about forgetting the debit card, ticked about my shoe, sock, and pants being soaked, and I get stopped by a sweet elderly man who feels the need to tell me a VERY long story about his childhood. I wasn’t in a hurry, and I didn’t mind talking to him at all…it actually put me in a better mood. Sometimes it is nice just to stop, take a breath, and listen. I like to think that God puts people like that in our path for a reason…whether it be to delay someone from being in an accident or just brighten a lonely person’s day. Often times, we let irritants pile up rather than let them go.
My unsolicited advice to my readers: When your day seems like total crap, force a smile, let out a giggle, take a deep breath, and thank God that you have crap days so you can appreciate the great ones.

To-Do Tuesday

My To-Do list for this week is going to seem lame, but it is what my family needs and that’s what’s most important.

1. Get our house back in order.
2. Pack for our weekend getaway. =)
3. Make grocery list w/ coupon match-up.
4. Go shopping.
5. Spend mass quantities of quality time w/ Greg & kids.
6. Get back on routine.
