Not-so Wordless Wednesday ~ The Bird

Okay, so we have this psychotic bird that has been trying to get in the bathroom window since Saturday morning. It’s not trying to build a nest or anything above or below the window, it just flies up to the window and flails around tapping it with its wings and beak. It’s not really bothering the girls, but Grayson is a totally different story. He refuses to use the bathroom unless I am in there with him ‘to scare away the bird’, he no longer wants to take a bath, he doesn’t even want to walk past the bathroom. (His reasoning is that the bird is strong and will break the glass.  Then it will get him.  Then snakes will come in, and worms, and bugs, and a bear with big teeth, and the donkey from next door.)  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to scare away this crazy bird so my son isn’t traumatized the next time he has to pee? Grayson’s idea was to put a dinosaur in the window…as you can see, it didn’t work.  (Disregard the dirty window…it won’t come clean.)

To-Do Tuesday ~ Week 13

As you can see, I am in the middle of giving my blog an overhaul. There are alot of things I haven’t even started changing/adding, and it is already giving me fits. Moving from blogger.com to wordpress format was easy but not…it’s kinda hard to explain. WordPress seems much cooler, but since I’m not used to it, all it’s doing is really ticking me off. I have purchased a domain name so if you have me bookmarked or whatever, the address is now http://lifeat30ish.com I’ve got big plans for my blog…it’s just been a slow journey thus far. I still haven’t gotten everything transferred over and all the kinks worked out, and this probably isn’t even the template I will use by the end of this monstrous project, but I’m learning and will get it where I want it eventually. Enough jabbering…here’s what you came here for…the list!

1. Not throw my innocent laptop through the innocent window when wordpress gives me grief.
2. File our state taxes.
3. Take truck through car wash (with the kids).
4. Continue to declutter house! Gameroom is next on the list!
5. Write blog post about my ultra nerdy cool coupon organizer!
6. Continue planning for Kara’s birthday party.
7. De-stress.
8. Plan our anniversary/birthday weekend getaway!

Permanent To-Do’s
1. Stick with the Family Challenges!
2. Stick to weekly menu plan.
3. Keep up with/follow budget using mint.com.
4. Remember to update progress on To-Do List!

5. Become consistent with working out in the gym and/or EA Active.
6. Keep flying with the FlyLady!

Menu Monday

Well, even though there are no excuses for neglecting my blog, I have done just that.  I have also neglected my routine.  My menu is non-existent, so I’m just gonna make it up on the fly.  I know what I’ve got in my kitchen, and I know what my crazy schedule consists of this week, so here it is.

Spaghetti w/ Sweet & Spicy Marinara Sauce

Chili

Homemade Pizza

Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Tilapia (Haven’t tried this one yet, but since Kylie can’t have the Tilapia Parmesan figured I’d experiment a bit.)

Chicken Alfredo

Ranch Burgers

Nothing fancy, just yummies to get us by until I can get back into the groove again.  I have many things on my plate, and I seem to keep adding more without taking anything away.  I’m thinking things will calm down a bit once a few personal issues are resolved.  (No worries…nothing bad, just annoying.)  I am in the process of writing a review, I have some stuff on the way to me via FedEx to test & review (way excited!), still working on my blog layout & features, and I’m wanting to post about my coupon organizer.  Seriously, it is super nerdy, but so stinking handy.

Oh, and I almost forgot…I have reconnected with several of my old buddies from Marine Corps Boot Camp.  It has been amazing catching up with these wonderful women and seeing where their lives have gone in the past 12 years.  Some are still in the Marines kicking butt & taking names overseas, others are back home with great careers and/or families.  It’s so interesting to see how the different paths our lives have taken have essentially led several of us to the same place.  I am so proud of my Marine sisters and thankful I have found them and have been able to reconnect with them.

Excuse the mess!

I am currently in the process of FINALLY getting my blog revamped. At this point, it is nowhere near where I want it to be, but I figure if I do a little at a time it will be less painful. ;) Things will probably be a little funky on and off for the next week or so, so don’t be alarmed! Hopefully I will have a new look and easier navigation with all the extra little goodies I’ve been wanting on here by the end of the month! So, please stick with me through the mess & hopefully we will come out uninjured on the other side of the torture that is blog design.

Thrifty Thursday

As you may have read, we’ve been suffering from allergies lately at our house, so I’ve been taking Zyrtec…which has been working quite well. Only issue is cost…it’s about $20 a bottle which isn’t quite a months worth. Boooo! But whaddya know Walgreen’s happened to have a deal on it this week, and I was more than happy to take advantage of it and a few more good deals.

2 Zyrtec liquid gels on sale for 18.99/ea – $8 in coupons = 29.98 ($10 in RR) total $9.99/ea after RR
Crest Pro Health on sale for 3.99 – $2 coupon = 1.99 ($1 RR) total .99 after RR
Olay Quench Lotion on sale 7.99 – $1 coupon = 6.99 (mail-in-rebate available for 7.99) total +$1 after coupon & MIR
Olay Quench In-Shower Lotion 4.99 – FREE w/ above Olay Quench Lotion purchase
Scotch Magic Tape 1.99/ea – WG coupon making .79/ea – $1 in coupons = .29/ea
2 Planters Trail Mix on sale for 1.50/ea -$1 WG coupon – $3 in coupons = total +$1 after coupons
WG Green bags .99/ea – WG coupon making them 3/$1
I did this in 2 transactions because I had a $5 RR from a previous Zyrtec purchase that I needed to use. So after both transactions (including tax & using the $5 RR) my total out of pocket was $38.86. Plus I got a $10 RR & I will receive a check for 7.99 for the Olay Quench Lotion. Woot! ;)

To-Do Tuesday 2010 – Week 12

Wow…what a week! Our lives have been a bit crazy the last few weeks…dealing with ex’s is NOT fun. Besides all the drama, we had a great week with the kiddos, and have been getting some stuff done around the house. My dad is moving soon, and has been loading me up with all kinds of old photos, newspaper clippings, etc. that he inherited when my grandma died several years ago. I’ve been going through that stuff little by little, but once I get sucked in it’s hard to stop digging. I am toning my list down a little for this week because I think I’ve just had too much on my plate lately. All the drama + our normally busy lives + all the extra stuff I’ve been undertaking lately = I’m a total exhausted mess. Plus, I’ve been severely neglecting my blog (totally missed To-Do Tuesday Week 11!), and I can’t let that happen! On to the toned down list!
1. Take photos of stuff Dad wants to sell.
2. Schedule auto repairs/windshield replacement for Greg’s car.
3. Take truck through car wash (with the kids) & clean/vacuum inside as well (without the kids).
4. Continue to declutter house! I’m on a roll!
5. Write blog post about my ultra nerdy cool coupon organizer!
6. Start planning for Kara’s birthday party.
7. Take some time for myself…de-stress.

Busy Bee

Wow…this week seems like it has been going on for a month. Typically when you are inhumanly busy, time flies…not this week. I have had so many regular things going on that I can hardly keep track, and then there are the random unplanned things that pop up. And then there is the fact that if there is old stuff around, I can’t control my self and must go through it. For instance…my Dad brought over a bunch of stuff that was my grandmother’s – old pictures, newspaper clippings, papers, etc., and I’ve been flipping through old pictures for a few days now. I plan on scanning as much as I can over the next few weeks so I can share this forgotten treasure of memories with other family members. Some of the stuff is stinking awesome. I found pictures of my Grandpa when he was in the Navy, of my Grandparents when they were young…like in their 20′s & 30′s, newspaper clippings of their wedding announcement, land deeds from the 1800′s, my Great-Grandmother’s hunting license from the 1940′s – in case you were wondering, it cost $1.50 back then, and tons more. Here are a few examples…

I am infatuated with this stuff…seeing their lives in a whole new light. I so wish they were still around to tell me stories about what is going on in many of the photos, who some of the people are, and just because I miss them. Even though they both have been gone for several years (Grandpa – 1994 & Grandma – 2005), I still miss them…a lot. They were wonderful Grandparents, who had a plethora of friends, and who were both strong Christians. So, if you don’t hear from me much the next few days, don’t be alarmed…I’ve just slipped into a fascinating vortex of my family’s past. I will be back. ;)

Menu Monday

I skipped out on last week, I know, I know…I’m terrible. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed lately with random drama and just typical wife/mom stuff, but I think I’ve finally got it all under control. Of course, my allergies are a different (totally out of control) story. Claritin was worthless, so now I’m trying Zyrtec…we’ll see how it goes. I’ve been having to experiment with some stuff because of newly discovered food allergies in my household, so you’ll have to stick with me…it’s been a bit strange. For instance, Sunday night I was preparing Tilapia Parmesan, but K#1 is allergic to milk so she can’t have it because of the butter, mayonnaise, and parmesan cheese…so I improvised and made hers a little different. Here’s our menu plan for the week, with a few new dairy-free recipes thrown in here and there.

Pizza
Spaghetti
Meatloaf
Pan Fried Tofu w/ Spicy Peanut Sauce (I know I put this one on a couple weeks ago, but I was stuffy the night I was supposed to prepare it and felt that giving tofu it’s 2nd chance on a night I couldn’t taste again was very fair…so I didn’t make it yet. Wish me it luck!)
Dairy-Free Smoothie I’ll be giving this to my sweet ‘dairy-free’ girl as a treat, plus it’s good for her!
Heavenly Angel Food Cake I thought this would be a good snack that is dairy-free and isn’t too sugary, but still gives you the sense of eating a dessert…perfect for my little ones!

Time Change

There are so many meanings to the phrase ‘Time Change’. For most people, it means turning the clocks back or forward depending on what time of year it is. Just a little side note, I despise the time change in the fall. I know gaining an hour sounds good and all, but dealing with it being dark so stinking early is totally not worth it. I likes me daylight. (Be advised, my allergy medicine may be kicking in…I’m getting a bit sleepy, and my thoughts and evidently that last sentence about daylight are in a british/pirate-y accent…uh-oh.)

Okay…back to my original thought. Time change for me lately has been a time for change in my life. I’ve really begun to take a stand, and change some not-so-great things about myself. My newest goal is to not raise my voice to my kids. I am, by default, a loud person. I’m not sure exactly where I picked up this handy, dandy feature, but it’s not one that I want to use as often as I find myself using it. I’m also trying to express the way I feel towards other people in an appropriate fashion. It seems that some people are offended when you come out and tell them they are being annoying, obnoxious, etc. Who knew? I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘sugar coating’, but maybe just bumping it down a notch. Also, letting those I love know how much they mean to me…how I appreciate them and all they do. And finally, I’ve decided to totally let God handle the drama. I am through feeling stressed out about other peoples reactions to hypothetical situations. I am ready to be prepared in case there is a tomorrow, but live today like there’s no tomorrow. Not necessarily being reckless or anything like that, but showing love and compassion, praying for others in their times of need or blessings, and just enjoying the fact that I have today…another day.
So, to sum up, I am toning myself down a bit, but living life to the fullest…sounds weird, but I’m up for a challenge. Yo-ho-ho! ;)

To-Do Tuesday 2010 – Week 10

I’ve decided my crazy cold wasn’t actually a cold at all…it’s allergies. So, I’m back to the sneezing, coughing, runny nose crap from a few weeks ago. Other than that, I’ve been feeling great! Been doing good on my reading, working out, cleaning/de-cluttering, sticking with the budget, etc. We’ve got a lot of things going on in our life right now and trying to juggle everything has been a bit of a challenge.
1. Get new tires for my truck.
2. Schedule auto repairs for Greg’s car & windshield repairs for both vehicles.
3. OPEN AN ETSY STORE! (Mainly stuff I’ve crocheted/sewed, but there will be random other crafts thrown in!)
4. Take de-cluttered items to donate to local thrift store.
5. Write blog post about my ultra nerdy cool coupon organizer!
6. Take photos of ALL completed items for my soon-to-exist Etsy store.
7. Make something with sewing machine. (Tried, but sweet husband accidently gave my power cord to his friend…hope to get it back today!)
8. Bake/Freeze crescent rolls, english muffins, & pizza dough.

Permanent To-Do’s
1. Stick with the Family Challenges!
2. Stick to weekly menu plan.
3. Keep up with/follow budget using mint.com.
4. Remember to update progress on To-Do List!

5. Stay consistent with working out in the gym and/or EA Active.
