Thrifty Thursday

Well, yesterday I made a Walgreen’s run, and did pretty good.  If you can time things right, and have high value coupons, you can really get some great deals.  Aside from some stuff we needed for our vacation (Goggles & disposable cameras), I was able to purchase 2 Christmas presents…yes, I said Christmas.  We are finished with birthdays until Grayson – 2 days after Christmas, so when I find deals on gift type items, I grab them up & put them in my stash.  They will be Christmas presents unless a rogue birthday party is thrust our way…if so, then some random kid gets a pretty good gift.  Okay, on to the details…

To-Do Tuesday

Okay, so I haven’t done one of these in awhile.  That doesn’t mean I’ve been slacking!  My To-Do List resembles what you would imagine Santa’s list of children to look like…an infinite list of line after line of tasks to complete.  Not only do I have my day-to-day duties, which I’ve been keeping up with fairly well, but I have a vacation to plan, and also things I have somehow volunteered myself to do.  Why do I pile stuff up so high on my plate? Am I a glutton for punishment? Do I want to keep busy so I don’t worry about issues I have no control over? Am I just a little crazy? I have no clue. It may be one, all or none of those…who knows?  Anyways, here is the condensed version of my To-Do List for the week.

1. Keep up with exercise. (Doing great so far…haven’t missed a day yet, AND I’m extremely sore.)
2. Keep up with housework.
3. Work on closet.
4. Stick to menu plan.
5. Complete pre-vacation shopping. (Including a car-top cargo carrier.)
6. Make hair appointment to rescue my face from my mop of hair & add a little “summer” color. ;)
7. Discuss & finalize certain vacation plans w/ Greg & FL family.
8. Take Grayson to the Library.
9. Take time for myself…read, get some sun, etc.
10. Finish vacation lists. (If I prepare like I have and end up forgetting something vital, I’m gonna be beyond ticked.)
11. Prepare for Mom’s visit. (The week before we leave for vacation…maybe I’ll enlist her help w/ vacation prep…hehe.)
12. Finish personalizing/updating Trinity’s cell phone. (Already had to order a replacement…not her fault, phone defect.)
13. Post actual life content on my blog. I have so many blog posts floating around in my head, but haven’t had the time to actually write them.

I ‘stole’ the following from Crazy Adventures in Parenting…the fearless leader of To-Do Tuesday. =)

Would you like to join us this week for To-Do Tuesday? Start with just a few things. Don’t over-do it your first couple of times. You’ll grow to become a list-a-holic later, start small now, though, k?
Just so you know, you can join us at anytime, it doesn’t have to be on Tuesdays – the list will go up every Tuesday for you to link to, but you can make your list and link to us at any point in the week!

Remember, with “To-Do Tuesday”, we’re attacking our to-do lists each week, blogging about our lists and what we’ve got going on, and sharing it with each other to help keep each other accountable. Everyone should come back here to link up in the MckLinky as the central “To-Do Tuesday Hub” so we can visit who’s participating and offer encouragement to each other throughout the week. Don’t forget to add the “To-Do Tuesday” button to your post, linking back to this post!

Let’s continue to cross items off our list as we go and help support each other in completing our lists! Don’t forget my useful HTML tutorial on how to effectively “cross-out” or √ “check off” your items on your to-do list!

Joining us? We’re using a new linky alternative called MckLinky! Please add your link below (to your To Do Tuesday post, and not the main page of your blog).

The countdown has begun…

The countdown has begun.

I’ve slowly been planning this vacation since January. A few things have changed, but nothing major. Our hotel is booked.

Our drive is roughly mapped (with a few scenic/fun detours along the way). I’ve purchased almost everything we will need…still hoping to get cool sun hats for all the girls & boonie covers for the guys. We are crazy excited to see family I haven’t seen in about 7 years, and Greg & 3/4 of the kids have never even met.

I’m ready for my babies to see the vastness of the ocean, smell the salt in the breeze, feel the beach sand between their tiny toes for the first time. Of course, they’ve seen pictures of where we’re going, but you can never really grasp the awesomeness of how large and wonderful God’s creation is unless you see it with your own eyes. It’s the same way with the mountains, you know their big, but you don’t understand until you actually see them up close.

We have some pretty cool things planned that the kids have no clue about in addition to lots of beach time…I’ll be posting about those surprises while we’re there. Overall, we will be driving for a total of about 2500 miles/44 hours, and I think I have that covered as well…random games/activities, snacks, and DS’s for each child, complete with car chargers. I may have over-prepared, but it’s better to do that then have to hear ‘Are we there yet?’ 12 bazillion times over the course of our trip. I’m sure we will still hear that dreaded question, but hopefully my preparation will minimize the quantity. Aside from our safety, I’m praying for our sanity…either I’ve done a great job to prepare for this adventure, or I’ve lost my stinking mind taking 4 kids half way across the country.

Worms With Ears

Last week, Grayson was taking a bath and began shouting for me. Not a normal ‘Mooooommmm’ shout but a frantic ‘Mom! Mom!’ I ran into the bathroom to find him out of the tub curled in a little shivering ball on the bathmat. He began excitedly telling me about a worm with ears that was in the bathtub. I removed all the dinosaurs and found nothing. He said it peeped out of the silver drain control thing (not sure what it’s technical name is), and looked at him. He said it was black with brown and had ears, from here the story took on a mind of its own. The worm wanted cheese, tried to bite his toe, wanted to watch TV, etc. Of course, none of this made sense, so I kinda blew it off…teased him about being silly, made him giggle to ease his mind, and coaxed him back in the tub to rinse.

Today, I go to start Grayson’s bath…and what falls out of the silver drain control thing? A centipede. My son’s 3 year old description of this creature was pretty good. His large antennae could totally be seen as ears in a child’s mind, and this thing was crazy so, yeah, I might think it wanted to bite my toe if I saw it too. It could have been the hot water I was pouring on it or the fact that I was screaming for someone to ‘get me a shoe!’ I wish I had thought to snap a photo, but I was too busy ‘Ewww! Ewww! -ing. Here’s the closest picture that I could find as to what it looked like.

WeReward iPhone App

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

So, the other day, I receive a package in the mail. I’d been expecting several packages, but not from this particular company. Confused, yet a bit excited (I like getting packages), I opened the box to reveal a white t-shirt and what I thought was a slightly deflated stuffed pig. Upon further inspection, the stuffed pig was actually a hat. Grayson, my 3 year old son, immediately confiscated it.

It was actually a promotional pack of sorts from a new mobile app called WeReward. Their logo is a flying pig…too cute. WeReward is a pretty cool app from the geniuses over at Izea (the company behind SocialSpark & Sponsored Tweets). The app was not immediately available for download, which drove me crazy, so I patiently awaited the launch.

The following day, I received an e-mail stating that WeReward had launched and was available in the iTunes store. I downloaded it, and began exploring. This video explains it perfectly…check it out!

The check-in’s are simple. So far, they are just photos of the businesses. I’m sure once this app gets going, it will be more indepth. The tasks are pretty cool…so far I’ve earned points for photographing various businesses & for doing a few random things like photographing myself drinking a RedBull. I’m up to 165 points at the moment, but I forsee that going quite a bit higher in the near future. ;) If you’d like to check it out, you can check out their website at or Download the App.

This isn’t exactly a Thrifty Thursday post, but it is a way to make a little extra cash here and there…which I am always looking for. It may only be 25 cents a day or so, but it eventually adds up. If you’re a Stay-At-Home-Mom on a budget like me, every little bit helps!

Hampton’s ‘Circle-of-Friends’ Sweepstakes!

Hampton Chain of Friends Sweepstakes

Click HereThis is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hampton Hotels. All opinions are 100% mine.

I just heard of a sweepstakes sponsored by Hampton that has a pretty sweet prize.
Picture this…you and 100 (yes, one hundred) of your friends staying at a Hampton hotel for one weekend, plus $5000 to help pay the tax for the weekend stay. How crazy would a hotel full of you & your friends be? Would the hotel staff be relieved when you left, or would they miss you? Would it be one of those ‘What happens in —-, stays in —-!’ weekends, or would you be able to post about it on Facebook? Personally, if I were to win, I would choose somewhere relatively close that has stuff you can do within walking distance. Maybe Branson, Memphis, St. Louis…or maybe save it for the USMC Platoon 4011 reunion we have in the works for next summer. A hotel full of Marines? Yeah, they’d be relieved when we left. I think it would be pretty fun though. ;)

The sweepstakes is called Chain-of-Friends. It’s Hampton Hotels way of getting you to reconnect with your friends. The hotel lists the Grand Prize as: Entire hotel for a weekend (100 rooms for 2 nights). And 100 First Prizes: Weekend stays given away daily for the winner & 3 of their friends. The sweepstakes is open to everyone, not just Hilton Honors members or those who have previously stayed at a Hampton Hotel. Go HERE to enter!
